Team News: Lowther Joins Team WNT

Melissa Lowther inks a one year deal with Team WNT Pro Cycling for 2018.

Team WNT Pro Cycling are proud to announce the signing of U23 British road race champion, Melissa Lowther, who will turn professional in 2018.

Melissa Lowther (centre above),  who’s 21, will line up in her first Elite Road World Championships this weekend in Bergen, Norway after an outstanding year of racing, having been a part of the Great Britain Olympic Senior Academy for two years.

Commenting on her arrival, DS Graeme Herd said ‘Mel comes to us from the Great Britain senior academy. She is a very versatile rider, who brings a lot of experience at such a young age.’

‘Mel adds strength and depth to our classics and stage racing squad for next year, and we look forward to working with her in our second year as a UCI team. Being selected for her first Elite World Championships, proves what a fantastic rider Mel is and I look forward to working with her next year’.

Lowther who hails from Yorkshire is a complete all-rounder, having won races from breakaways, sprints, whilst also medalling in the U23 time-trial championships and is an excellent domestique.

Proving her strength and tactical race knowledge at the British National road race in the Isle of Man, Mel could follow the likes of eventual winner, Lizzie Deignan to finish 5th in the elite race, taking the U23 national title.

‘I’m delighted to join the team for 2018, its professional set up made my decision to join the team an easy one. The Commonwealth Games which are being held in the Gold Coast in April is a big aim for me, so the first half of the year will revolve around that as well as the classics, as I am a strong rider and I enjoy races which have hard courses.’

‘After a taster of UCI races during 2017, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into some of the biggest races on the women’s calendar, and making my step up in the professional ranks.’
We welcome Melissa to the team, and look forward to working with her in 2018. You can follow Mel on Twitter @MelLowther96.
