Team News: Ollie Wood & Germain Burton sign for JLT Condor

Ambitious Ollie

Fourth in the Under 23 road worlds and winner of the Ryedale GP Premier Calendar race in 2017, Ollie Wood signs for JLT Condor along with Germaine Burton.

Ollie was inspired by his dad to take up cycling and has been part of British Cycling’s Olympic Development programme since 2011. He won bronze in the team pursuit at the 2016 European Track Championships. At the 2014 UEC Junior and Under 23 European Track Championships in Portugal, Ollie won the silver medal in the under 23 scratch race event.

Wood previously paired with JLT Condor’s Ed Clancy in the 2015 Revolution Track Series, where the duo’s successful partnership saw them claim victory in the series overall.
John Herety explained that the team would support Wood’s Olympic ambitions using a similar strategy to Ed Clancy OBE, who has passed through three Olympic cycles with JLT Condor.

“Ollie is one of the best up and coming track riders. That’s been confirmed with his 4th at the U23 World’s and proven his ability to cross over from track to road and we are delighted to welcome him to the team. Tokyo 2020 is his main goal and we are a team with a proven record at being able to support riders with medal ambitions.”

Germain Burton’s Back
Young rider, Germain Burton, returns to cycling with the assistance of JLT Condor. The 22-year-old from south London left the sport in 2016, giving up his position in the British Cycling Olympic development squad. During his time away from cycling, Burton studied biomechanics and personal training.

“I took time out to work on personal interests to better understand movement efficiency and injury prevention in training and general movement.” As a junior and in under 23 races, Germain showed his talent in a number of areas, from hill climbs to track cycling, and his love for cycling was revived when he started a community project, One Life Cycle.

“I rediscovered my love for the sport whilst racing with a close friend and starting One Life Cycle, a youth cycling project, with a vision of getting young people in London involved in an enjoyable, safe, healthy community. After a year gaining experience training a number of people, I felt I could reapply what I’ve learnt to my career as a professional athlete.”

Burton will begin racing again at the Revolution series this autumn. John Herety is keen to see his return to the pro peloton is within the right environment. “He’ll partner with JLT Condor’s Matt Gibson in the Revolution Series. After that he will continue with an endurance block before slotting back into domestic racing in a non-pressurised environment.”

“He’s fallen back in love with riding his bike. We need to make sure we provide the right atmosphere that continues the love affair. If we do that we will see the very best of Germain”, explained JLT Condor’s long serving team manager, John Herety.
