Quickfire Q&A: Isaac Appleby (Clay Cross RT)

Full time rider or do you juggle racing with work? The 2018 season will be riding full time during my gap year from education.

Highlight of 2017 was? A 10th place at National Track Champs.

Most difficult moment of 2017? The first Pimbo of the year. 2 degrees and pouring it down. About 3/4 of the field pulled out. Scarred me for life.

Most enjoyable race of 2017? Derby GP. A Brother NRG rider and I attacked with 25 laps to go and managed to stay away in front of a fairly big crowd. I got rolled in the sprint of course.

Toughest Race of 2017? Llyn Brenig Road race in North Wales. A lot of climbing and some bad legs made it 3 hours of suffering to get round.

Typical training week mid season? Monday- 2 hour cafe ride. Tuesday- 3hour ride with some specific intervals. Wednesday- split day with a short ride in the morning and a track/turbo session in the evening. Thursday-rest. Friday- 1 hour opener for race on Saturday.

Most dreaded training session? 4 minute Vo2 efforts before track nationals.

Interval day- turbo or road? Turbo if the intervals are short, road if they are long.

What type of ride do you do for winter base training? CAF rides.

What bike will you race in 2018? Giant Propel. Quite aero and stiff, and I can get it reasonably light with a pair of Dura Ace C-35s.

Goals for 2018? Win more than one National B road race, top 10 at u23 national road champs, sign a domestic pro contract.

If you pick one event to win in 2018 what would it be? National road champs of course
