Winners Bikes: Beth Crumpton’s Boardman Elite CXR
Another of the very special bikes at the National Trophy is Beth Crumpton’s yellow Boardman Elite CXR that matches her leader’s jersey – yellow! We talk to Beth about the bike …
“After I won in Derby (round 1 of the National Trophy)” explained Beth, one of guys who works for Boardman Bikes, sent me a message saying he had a yellow frame would I like them to build it up and I replied that would be amazing?” “So they built it up to the same spec as my other bike and said I could keep on riding it whilst I have yellow and now I’m taking it all the way to the last round of the series”.
“It is a really nice bike and I am running 38 mm handlebars because I am quite small”.
Beth explained she is running SRAM CX 1 Force single 38 tooth chain ring at the front with up to a 36 tooth cassette on the back (11,12,13,15,17,19,22,25,28,32,36). The bike has the most popular pedals in ‘cross, the Shimano XTR.
(From the SRAM website) – The SRAM X-SYNC™ wide-tooth, narrow-tooth chainring technology provides maximum chain control. The Unidirectional carbon in crank arm matched to a forged alloy spider for light weight and durability. Chainrings available in (110 BCD) 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, (130 BCD) 52 and 54 teeth to conquer every course from sand dunes to gravel-road assaults.
“Fizik have also fitted me out with a nice yellow saddle to go with the colour of the bike” says Beth.
The Boardman CXR has SRAM Force disc brakes – Beth says of them “with steep banks like this (Bradford CX course), and when you go to Belgium as well where they have got really big steep banks, it’s nice to feel in control and you stop when you really need to stop!”
Beth is running 33mm wide Challenge tyres. “I had Limuses on the yellow Boardman bike and Baby Limus on the other Boardman bike as well. When the course is drier, I like to run the Grifos” explained Beth.
