News: Vitus Pro Cycling Reveal Line up for 2018

With an average age of just 22 years old, the line up for Vitus Pro Cycling for 2018 will be a young one as team owner Cherie Pridham looks to give opportunties to the young up and coming riders in Britain.

Retained from the 2017 team is Adam Kenway, British Hill Climb Champion in 2016, and is according to the team press release, a key to the strength of the team. Along with the experience he brings to our young team, it would be great to see Adam winning again says team boss Cherie Pridham.

Scottish under 23 youngster Grant Martin had his first taste of top level racing in 2017 with Team Raleigh GAC, and goes into his second year full of confidence. “We are looking forward to seeing Grant further his development in the town centre criteriums where his aggressive attacking style and fast finish will no doubt see Grant on the podium this season” adds Cherie.

The ever experienced Josh Hunt joins the team having ridden for One Pro Cycling for the past three seasons. Josh will be key to leading the team on the road. Josh is one of the most experienced riders in the UK; his calm methodical approach to racing will be key to the development of the team.

Talking about the other new signings, Cherie explains “right from the planning of Vitus Pro Cycling, our objectives in year one was to have a core group of U23 riders. We are delighted to be working with some of the best up and coming young riders, welcoming no less than seven Under 23’s to the team. They are:

– Harrison Jones (20) talented all-rounder keen to step up in both the criteriums and road scene; he has an exciting aggressive riding style and a clear eye for the breakaways.

– Joe Reilly (18) first year senior, fast finisher and not afraid to get stuck in. Winner of the Tour Lammermuirs and 6th in Junior Cicle classic 2017.

– Tim Torrie (18) first year senior, joins us from HMT Academy. Tim was an easy choice for the team having won a stage of Acht van Bladel 2017 as a junior.

– Liam Davies (18) first year senior, winning the Junior International Tour of Assen in 2017.

– Andy Shackel (23) is another fast finisher with 12 wins in 2017; we are looking forward to seeing Andy in the Tour Series and town centres, and build on more wins for the team.

– Leon Gledhill (21) former GB Junior track sprint member and was part of the Olympic development program for two years. We are excited to see Leon develop with a big focus on the criterium scene.

– Julio Amores Palacios (25) is the team’s Spanish pocket rocket. Julio won a stage of the Tour de Guadeloupe in 2017, great at finding the right breakaway and packs a fast finish. He’s a former Under 23 Spanish Track Champion, won seven road races in 2016, and brings a huge amount of experience to the team. Julio forms part of the current Spanish Track team and will compete in couple of weeks at the Spanish Omnium championships, followed by the Minsk Track World Cup and Challenge Mallorca before he joins the team at the training camp in Spain at the end of February.

Team manager Cherie Pridham says “It’s been a very busy few months, but we are delighted to launch the UCI Continental team and are excited to get riding and racing.” Vitus Marketing Manager Steve Kitchin added “These are exciting times for Vitus, we are looking forward to be working with Cherie Pridham Racing and building the New Vitus Pro Cycling Team in the years ahead.  The team’s philosophy of developing new talent fits perfectly with our aim of producing bikes that take you to the next level. Racing is an important part of the Vitus heritage, stemming back to the original Vitus 979 classic bikes of the 80’s, raced by our long term ambassador Sean Kelly. We’re looking forward to working with the riders and further refining new bikes with the team in the years ahead.”

The riders will be racing on the new 2018 Vitus Vitesse Evo team bike which has Shimano Dura Ace groupsets and Prime wheels. Both Vitus and Prime are sold exclusively through Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles.
