One of the most prolific winners in 2017, Ian Bibby heads the line up for the 52nd Clayton Velo Spring Classic on Feb 25
Startlist: 52nd Clayton Velo Spring Classic
The North’s season opener hits the roads around Clitheroe Lancashire on Sunday 25th of February. The handicap format is retained for the 15th year and has attracted a big entry with an unprecedented number of 1st year Junior riders starting out on their road racing development.
Organiser Peter Boast said “It’s great to see of course but gives us a big headache in terms of selecting the field. We have a great mix of Pro riders, Vet’s and a seven rider Team Breeze women’s BC squad”.
The scratch group usually make the front of the race with around 2 or 3 laps to go but not so in 2016 when 1st year junior and now World Champion time trailist Tom Pidcock and Rob Scott took 1st and 2nd respectively, just holding off the charging local Ian Wilkinson.
The big names in the 26 rider scratch group who have to make up 7 minutes over the 58 miles includes Ian Bibby, Tom Moses and James Gullen JLT Condor, a 4 man team from Canyon Eisber including Andy Tennant, a strong team from Ribble Cycling, including past winner Si Wilson and super Vet Richard Houghton. Local ‘tester’ roadman Ryan Perry rides for the first time.
