After a season with Cherie Pridham Racing in the Raleigh GAC colours, Adam Kenway returns this season racing for the same team but this time in the colours of Vitus Pro Cycling. We chat
Team News: Adam Kenway (Vitus Pro Cycling)
A rider who really doesn’t need any introduction after his season with team boss Cherie Pridham in 2017, Adam Kenway says he is looking forward to racing for Cherie again in the new team and getting out there in the new colours.
He says in his chat with the team that the highlight of 2017 was definitely the Tour de Yorkshire. “It was great to compete at that high level and I really enjoyed that style of racing” Adam explained. “Last season, I raced twice as many events as previous years, which has really brought me on as a rider. I can also go into this season knowing what to expect as a rider” Adam went on to say.
The toughest races of 2017, was he says two events. “The first is the Rutland Classic because I was doing a lot of riding on the front early doors and then punctured twice so I was then chasing to get back into the race! The second was the final stage of the Tour de Yorkshire – as most people know, I enjoy the hills, but 27 climbs and 130 miles certainly finished me off!”
The last time we saw Adam racing on the road was in the British Hill Climb Championships so we asked did he have a break after that. “No” was the reply, adding “I went straight back into training! After the hill climbs, it’s quite nice to get some miles in the legs again so after the Nationals, I went straight into 20-25 hour training weeks as I didn’t want to put any of the weight back on I lost for the hill climbs”.
“I’ve had a good winter so far. I had a big week in Calpe with plenty of miles and I’m really just focusing on getting some tough, hard miles in ready for the early season road races. I’ve had plenty of five hour rides around 100 miles and because there are few races which are longer than that,I feel that will be sufficient in training”.
Finally, when asked for his goals in the colours of Vitus Pro Cycling, he says “I want to win as many races as I can as I’m very hungry for some victories this season”.
Thanks to Adam for the chat and good luck for 2018
