A total of 308 competitors braved last Tuesday night’s cold and blustery conditions to compete in round two of the Team RL360 Isle of Man’s Youth League at the NSC. Before the racing got underway RL360’s Angela Gregory handed over the company’s sponsorship cheque for 2018.

Battling against a strong headwind down the finishing straight, Bella Quaye outran breakaway companion Euan Kinnish to grab the number one slot in the born 2013 and later age group. Jackson Roberts pipped Eli Dawson for the final place on the podium and Riley Faragher kept chasers Harry Kinrade, India Smith, Austin Baglow and Ciaran Grimshaw at bay for fifth. Daisy Teare came in on her own to complete the top ten.

In the Novices class Lauren Hoch overcame Holly Beattie and Elliott Barron in the tussle for first place. Bradley Malone was a solid fourth and Aditya Varshney passed Claudia Hoch in the closing stages to snatch fifth. Alfie Jacobs led Jenson Baglow, Eugene McKiernan, Charlotte Ashall, Alexander Jones and Ted Thompson over the line for seventh, with Naomi Nesbitt spearheading the rest of the large field home in 13th place.

Completing a hat trick of wins for the girls, Poppy Clayton edged out Cameron Eyres in the dash for maximum points in the born 2012 category. Gracie Evans beat Tommy Bass in the fight for third and Timothy Clarke was too quick for Oliver Kennington, Noah Hutchinson and Oscar Maddrell in the rush for fifth. Henry Kinrade was a lonely ninth and Charlie Quine stayed clear of chasers Aeden Le Roux, Callum Leslie and Finley Quirk to secure the remaining place on the top ten leader board.

Finbar McSevney led from start to finish in the born 2011 event. Jacob Wilson and Alex McCullagh were a safe second and third, with Joshua Moffitt outsprinting Toby Costain and Bernat Munoz-Fite for fourth. Top girl Erin Morgan was seventh closely followed by Charlie Dormer, Dylan Honeyman, Macaulay Teare and Samuel Kinnish. The fast finishing Bobby Kewley escaped from a seven-strong chasing group to claim 12th.

Onchan’s Liam Blake set the pace at the front of the born 2010 race and was never headed. Kylan Murphy edged Brad Le Geyt for the runners-up spot and leading girl Lula Kinnish rode away from fellow chasers Daniel Minay and Conor Madsen-Mygdal to bag fourth. Max Messenger was seventh and Harrison Skillan fought off Alfie Kinrade and Casey Clague in the scrap for eighth.

Four riders contested the finish of the born 2009 race with Zach Jones getting the verdict over Eddie Dillon, May-Saa Smith and Abi Clayton. Cameron Hounsell was fifth and Tom Pickavance surged ahead of Harry Beattie, Henry Dormer and Graihagh Morgan for sixth. Grace Wolstencroft rounded off the top ten.

In the born 2008 class Deaglan Blake got the better of Freddie Griffin in the final lunge for the line. Charlie Williams was a secure third and Leon Murphy got past T.J.Teare to grab fourth. Edward Field ousted George Kinnish and Lewis Quirk in the dash for sixth, while Deane Aspell warded off Tiana Kelly and Fynn Bradley in the tussle for ninth.

After gapping the field on the opening lap, Cian Howard soloed to victory in the born 2007 and earlier grouping. Orry Lund eased ahead of James Kinrade in the scamper for second and Jordan Carter came from behind to seize fourth from Nicola Quaye. Second girl Chloe Dillon won the bunch gallop for sixth.

Freddie Griffin came out on top in the four-strong sprint that decided the top positions in the combined under-8 and under-10 racing bikes. Charlie Williams was second, Myles Le Geyt third and Deaglan Blake fourth, with Joel Long and Kylan Murphy just behind in fifth and sixth positions. Eddie Dillon was the top under 8 rider in seventh spot and Abi Clayton the best girl in ninth place.

In the under-12 racing bikes Cian Howard emerged from a leading group of five frontrunners to record his second success of the night. Owen Collins was second closely followed by Ivan Sorby, Drystan Sewell and Orry Lund in third, fourth and fifth respectively. Sophie Smith led out Nicola Quaye to take the girls’ prize in sixth place.

The fast improving James Harrison produced a powerful turn of speed to get the better of Will Corkill in the sprint at the end of the twenty lap under-16’s racing bikes. Aaron Lund was third and Tyler Hannay fourth. Matthew Cooil and Corrin Leeming wrapped up the top six. Zac Walker was the top under-14 in eighth place and Shellan Leeming the first girl in 13th slot.
