With a strong field of seventy-five riders in teams of three the week end’s racing took the form of a 1.5-mile prologue followed by a Saturday afternoon 44 mile road race on the classic Penny Pot circuit.
Sunday morning’s third stage was a 5.5-mile TTT and then in the afternoon the crunch stage on the hilly tough Darley/Dacre circuit. With yellow, green, polka and blue (leading junior) jerseys up for the grabs the weekend was set for some excellent racing. A very healthy junior contingent was in the line up with 23 juniors starting.
Stage 1 – 1.5mile TT
Power house Matt Dudman (Paceline North) was a clear winner in the prologue, his third win in the last ten days. Two more power men took the other two podium places, Mat Kirkbright and David McNeill (both All Terrain), first junior was Sam Watson (PM-MAS) who only lost a handful of seconds on restricted gears finishing in 8th place.

Stage 2 – 44 mile Road Race
Stage 2 covered four laps of the eleven-mile Penny Pot circuit. An early break formed which eventually settled to Will Orrell-Turner and Euan Cameron (both Wheelbase Cabtech Junior RT) and Freddie Jagger and Jude Taylor (both Team B38 / Underpin Racing).
Into the last lap and a frantic chase was being driven by several of the strong teams, the remnants of the break were caught with five miles to go. At this point Sam Watson (PH-MAS) and Dylan Westley (Giant Halifax Race Team) attacked and worked together well to approach the uphill finish with a decent gap.
The two sprinted it out up Bland Hill, Watson taking the win by a couple of bike lengths. Daniel McDermott (FTR-Milltag) jumped the bunch on the run in and help on to third place as the bunch closed, Jamie Ridehalgh (PH-MAS – guest) taking the bunch sprint. This moved Watson into yellow, green and blue.

Stage 2 – 5.5 mile TTT
The stage 3 TTT was run over the moors from Greenhow village, a mainly slightly downhill course made for some fast times for the 5.5mile race. Team 38 / Underpin Racing put in a rapid time of 10:27 followed by the Squadra RT trio, third place was a tie between Paceline North who were down to two men and the Giant Halifax juniors, an impressive time on restricted gears. Freddie Jagger moved into the yellow and Dylan Westerly into the blue.

Stage 4 – 37 mile Road Race
The final stage has always been viewed as the decider, a technical tough eight-mile loop soon took its toll in the glorious weather.
At the end of the first lap three riders had escaped the front of the bunch with many escaping out of the back on the main hill prime climb to Stone House Crossroads. Glen Hale (Holmfirth CC), David Ogg (Bryan Steel Academy) and Jordan Reed (Team KTM UK) forcing the break up to forty-five seconds. Ogg was noticeable strong on the climb and took all the KOMs to secure the polka jersey.
Into the penultimate lap Jagger made a well-timed move from the bunch, he closed the gap on his own and was then driving the leading group, this was reduced to three and then two as Jagger and Hale came into sight of the finish. Hale took a well-deserved stage win and Jagger an even more deserved overall victory.
