News: Seaton Cycle Fest Returns

Seaton Cycle Fest returns for its third year on Sunday July 1st, with the East Devon seaside town hosting a full day of circuit races for all categories.

The circuit has been compared favourably with many in the Tour and National Circuit Race Series. It consists of a 1.25km circuit that finishes along Seaton’s picturesque seafront esplanade with views across Lyme bay. Immediately after the finish the road ramps up the short sharp climb of Castle Hill, before dropping back down to the finish area; then doing a loop through Seaton’s town centre before returning to the seafront.

Racing starts at 11am with the under tens, and continues throughout the day until the Elite race at 4.45pm.

The highly regarded event promoted by 1st Chard Wheelers and Seaton Town Council saw crowds of over 2000 watch James Ireson win an action packed elite criterium from a small group that just managed to hold off a frantically chasing peloton.

In the two previous years, the main youth race has been won by South West riders Will Tidball and Harry Birchill; both of who are now on the Olympic Development Programme.

The men’s Elite race will have a minimum first prize of £150, and the women’s race £100, with parity if the race has over twenty entrants. For family members and non cyclists there is plenty to do in Seaton with the Seaton Jurassic Centre celebrating the famous Jurassic Coast of East Devon and Dorset, and the famous Seaton Electric Tramway.

The Programme of racing through the day is:

11.00 – 11.15 Youth U10s
11.25 – 11.45 Youth U12s
