Where to start? There is so much to say, all 100% positive. I am totally aware this is one of those tediously long posts but if you are thinking of a cycling holiday, I’d say it’s worth reading on!
The Cycling – fantastic. Wide roads, no potholes, hardly any cars, a mix of routes that includes mountains, coast, vineyards and (sometimes) a stretch of flat. Every day is fully supported, either with Nozad on his scooter or Spanish Malc (who isn’t Spanish) in his van. So you don’t have stuffed pockets ever. Brilliant.
The Climbs – they are long and gradual and there is steep too. There are totally do-able loops and there are long tough days for the most hardcore. One of my faves was climbing Alto de Aitana from Sella. It’s long but it’s gradual, you can smash it, you can pace it, – whatever you decide you’ll love it.
The Villa – is a beautiful home and this is really what sets CHS apart. Here you have a pool and gardens to chill, sauna, massage after riding, beautiful home cooked meals and a fridge stocked with everything in liquid form you need (oh god those cold beers after a long day in the saddle…just yes).
Nozad & Jubi – just brilliant. Here you have Nozads local cycling knowledge, enthusiasm, spirit, humour & 100% support to guide you on your bike at all times. Jubi – fabulous host, always a smile, always a beer, always fabulous food. (OMG the FOOD – who doesn’t love a crumble for pudding??).
Other stuff – having your laundry done, having energy drink, bars and recovery drinks provided. Not having to take towels. Not having to go shopping. Not having to worry about building my bike (thanks Nozad!). Routes being briefed every morning. Basically not having to think about anything but riding my bike which is the ethos of CHS.
In summary: this camp works – if you are a willy waving strava fanatic, a deadly serious racing cyclist OR (like me) just wanting to rack some miles/climbs in the sun. Together these guys have created a very special place that money can’t buy – it just IS. DO IT.
