A total of 190 young cyclists braved the dank and misty conditions at the NSC last Tuesday night to compete in the 18th and penultimate round of Team RL360 Isle of Man’s youth league.

With quite a few of the regulars on holiday, those present had a golden opportunity to improve their points tally in the overall standings.

In the born 2013 & later class Jackson Roberts pulled away from the field to record his first win of the series. Euan Kinnish was a solid second and Eli Dawson edged out top girl Daisy Teare for third. Austin Baglow came in on his own for fifth and Harry Kinrade outran Isla Mulholland, Callen Quayle and Lucas Li-Hanlon for sixth. Liam Lonergan led Jasper Anderson, Jasper Cain, Finlo Mitchell and Layton Kelly over the line to complete the top ten.

Notching up her third victory in as many weeks, Holly Beattie came from behind to pip Charlotte Ashall for the top slot in the novices race. Austyn Skillicorn held off Oliver Ford and Heidi Kelly in the dash for the final place on the podium, with Steven Kennaugh leading Brody Nicol and Jenson Baglow home for sixth. Anabelle Harrison and Blae Craine trailed in separately to complete the top ten.

Cameron Eyres attacked breakaway companion Poppy Clayton on the last lap of the born 2012 age group and soloed to victory. The fast finishing Henry Kinrade was third and Oscar Maddrell stayed clear of chaser Corrie Brogan to claim fourth. Dorothy Hampton ousted Ryan Cartwright and Finley Quirk for sixth, while Charlie Staley beat Lewis Stephens in the tussle for ninth.

Castletown’s Jacob Wilson overtook early leader Abigail Cowell in the closing stages of the born 2011 category and stayed clear to the finish. Bernat Munoz-Fite was a safe third and Bobby Kewley caught and passed Alex McCullagh in the battle for fourth. Sam Wolstencroft eased away from Charlie Dormer and Macaulay Teare to claim sixth, with Leo Gray getting the verdict over Josie Quirk in the bunch sprint for ninth.

Bobby Davenport, Bobby Kerruish and Joshua Moffitt had a coming together on the opening lap, without serious injury, and were unable to complete the race.

In the born 2010 event Kylan Murphy went from the gun and was never challenged. Brad Le Geyt chased hard but in the end had to settle for the runners-up spot some distance ahead of Archie Mulholland, who shaded Thomas Hutchinson in the scramble for third. Harrison Skillan was fifth and Daniel Minay pipped Alfie Kinrade in the rush for sixth. Ned Hampton beat Rebecca Radcliffe and Florence Heselton in the dart for eighth.

Zach Jones stepped on the pedals at the start of the born 2009 class and quickly opened up a sizable gap that he maintained all the way to the chequered flag. Cameron Hounsell fronted Abi Clayton and May-Saa Smith in the scrap for second with Harry Beattie just behind in fifth position. Grace Wolstencroft led the rest of a splintered field home for sixth.

The outcome of the born 2008 contest was decided in a four-strong sprint of frontrunners won by Alec Sorby. Freddie Griffin was a close second, Charlie Williams third and T.J.Teare fourth. The first girl was Tiana Kelly in eighth spot.

Cian Howard had to work hard to win the bunch gallop at the end of the born 2007 & earlier grouping, edging out Oscar Gaylor by the narrowest of margins. Jordan Carter was third followed by James Kinrade, Orry Lund and Nicola Quaye in fourth to sixth places. Sophie Smith, Sam Devereau, Sam Cunningham and Ed Coole rounded off the top ten leader board.

With the light fading fast, the three racing bike classes were reduced in distance. In the under-8 and under-10s three lapper Alec Sorby scored his second success of the night, outpacing Myles Le Geyt in the scamper for the line. Charlie Williams led the chasers in for third, with May-Saa Smith picking up the girls’ prize in seventh position.

In the under-12s, which now incorporates the under-14 girls race, Cian Howard completed the double, outgunning Oscar Gaylor and Ivan Sorby in the dart for the flag. Sophie Smith was fourth and Nicola Quaye got the better of Orry Lund and Rio Kelly in the struggle for fifth. Mairi Harrison, Ella and Florence Griffin were the top three under-14 girls in eighth, tenth and 13th places.

The twenty lap under-14 and under-16 race was run at a frantic pace. Eight frontrunners stayed together to the finish where James Harrison emerged from the pack to grab the win. Aaron Lund was second and first U/14 rider Zac Walker a fine third. Series leader Will Corkill grabbed fourth ahead of Tyler Hannay, Corrin Leeming, Ralf Holden and Jack Christian. The top girl was Shellan Leeming in 15th place.
