Tour of Britain: Dimension Data Team

The Tour of Britain gets underway this Sunday and, as previous winners, Team Dimension Data go into the race looking to once again feature prominently.

Scott Thwaites

The eight-day event will depart from Pembrey Country Park, Wales, and end in London a week later. The race will offer a mix of climbing and sprint opportunities, and also the chance for opportunists to go all the way. Unique days include stage 5 which will be a 14km team time trial, starting in Cockermouth, while the final stage is a 5.5km lap repeated 14 times, running through downtown London, which will definitely draw a big crowd and offer an exciting finale.

Our team will be led by Australian Mark Renshaw, who will look to get involved in the sprints which could be the case on stages 2, 4, 7 and 8. Joining him on the startline will be Scott Davies, who hails from Camarthen, and Yorkshireman Scott Thwaites. Our lineup is completed by the South African trio of Jay Thomson, Jaco Venter and Nicholas Dlamini.

Connor Swift, who is a stagiaire with Team Dimension Data, will be racing for his team, Madison Genesis, at this event. Following a strong showing in the Arctic Race of Norway for Team Dimension Data, the current British champion no doubt will also be one to watch during the Tour of Britain.

Roger Hammond – Sports Director “We’re really looking forward to coming to the Tour of Britain for a third year now. It’s a big event for us; very important especially considering Dimension Data’s standing in the UK. We’re coming in with a very young team this year so we’re looking more towards fighting for stage victories each day rather than targeting the GC. It will be very interesting to see how the uphill team time trial shapes the event, as you don’t get to practice those much in any other races.”

“It should be good, the guys will enjoy it and as always there will be massive crowd support and given that Geraint Thomas is coming as the Tour de France champion it should make the event more spectacular than it has been for the last two years.”

Lineup:
Mark Renshaw
Scott Davies
Nicholas Dlamini
Jay Thomson
Scott Christopher Thwaites
Jaco Venter
