News: Lampier Wins CX Title

This last weekend saw throughout the UK the regional cyclo cross championships. The South West’s championships were held at the Redruth school on the grass playing field using the natural terrain of banks, off chamber turns and steep climbs.

The senior race started in damp conditions but this did not deter Steve who took on the one hour race from the gun. He led from the start, being pushed by Richard Long from Bristol.

The lead was 10 seconds with the gap being closed to 5 but on lap 3 of 8, Lampier pressed the pedals harder and the lead went out to 25, then 35 seconds. Looking unchallenged, Lampier played a cool race putting the pressure down when needed and more importantly didn’t take any risks on the slippery parcour.

Long unfortunately had a late mechanical but held on respectably for 2nd with Philip Collins from Tavistock rounding out the podium for the prestigious title in winter racing.

Lampier was over the moon with victory said “the pressure was on today, everyone looking to me win, it was mine to lose. I was worried with Richard being so close but I stayed calm. It’s nice to win a title race to round out my winter campaign of cross races and wins. Especially in my sponsors home town.
