News: Success for Young Brits at Paarl Boxing Day Racing

Success for British youngsters at one of South Africa’s most celebrated track events. Alice and Lucas Towers (both RST/Cycle Division) rode the Paarl Boxing Day track meeting, the longest running and also official UCI event in the world, has run continuously for 122 years.

This historic and well-established event that dates back to the 1900s, brings alive the rich culture and heritage attached to track cycling, and awakens in so many folk the joys and triumphs of the winners in past years in the Western Cape.

Alice Towers won all the women’s elite races and Lucas finished 4th twice in his events and then punctured in the U17 age group 5km final.

Footnote: Prior to Christmas, Micheal Mottram and Stephen Bradbury claimed the Paarl 6 title after the six-day event concluded at the Faure Stadium in Paarl, Western Cape. The duo fnished the event with the highest points after completing six events (10km scratch race, 500m two-man time-trial, 20 lap points race, elimination, 10 lap race and longest lap).
