News: No jerseys for Under 23s at CX Champs

This year, British Cycling has taken the decision (following changes in UCI regulations) to merge the elite and under-23 races at the HSBC UK | National Cyclo-cross Championships to ensure a better race for riders and to allow for a junior women’s championship.

The championships is a UCI classification event and therefore runs under UCI regulations. There is an error in the rider manual, and therefore for clarification, there will be one start for both the men’s and women’s races, to include elite and under-23 riders. In accordance with UCI regulations for the discipline, a national champion’s jersey cannot be presented to the winner of the under-23 category.

The winner of the elite race only (whether they are an under-23 or elite category rider) will be eligible to wear the national champion’s jersey. Only elite UCI points will be awarded for the race, as per UCI regulation, meaning that no under-23 UCI points will be eligible to be awarded. There will however be an under-23 national title awarded, and medal presentations will take place for men’s and women’s under-23 medallists. A ceremonial, framed national championships jersey will be given to the under-23 winners as a trophy.
