FEATURE: CiCle Classic

After a three man break dominated the race, the final third of race saw the peloton shrink and in the bunch sprint, there was a photo finish win for Colin Joyce ahead of last years winner
Gabriel Cullaigh and Rory Townsend

FEATURE: CiCle Classic

This years race was the 15th Edition and from the start in 2005 when Scott Gamble won the first event, the race has got bigger and bigger and this year had the strongest field yet which is perhaps why it was not the most exciting of editions as the teams cancelled each other out on the road and gaps were hard to open up. The CiCLE Classic attracts an international field of mainly Conti teams but this year Pro Conti team Rally UHC from the USA were here with their big team bus making the statement to others of watch out.

Sure, they won the race but in no way did they dominate it. The parcour for the CiCLE Classic is tough enough for the race to finish in bits as we have seen. But it all depends on how its raced and when the peloton cruises for so long, a bunch sprint is always on the cards. A look back at the past winners and ‘group sprints’ are common but not as big a group as this year.

See how the race unfolded with the photo feature report on VeloUK’s sister site:
