News: Shaw delivers in Tour de Yorkshire

trainSharp Inspire Talent coached James Shaw had an excellent ride in a brutal Tour of Yorkshire last week, a big season goal and one he delivered on. He finished 5th in the final stage and 5th in the General Classification.

As is evident in professional racing, the big numbers come towards the end of the stage, in comparison to amateur racing where all the big numbers come at the start. James achieved an all-time best 4 minute peak power output, chasing down Chris Froome.

These peak numbers come after a tough few days of racing and having already completed over 3000 kJ of work! This shows impeccable fatigue resistance which is what separates the best from the rest.

Interview 2

James said of his performance “Stage four Halifax to Leeds was very similar to the final stage of 2018’s race. A lumpy, grippy route created to make a real hard race. The day started by letting the days escapees have a small gap to fight over the intermediate points.”

“The race truly lit up coming through Patley Bridge and into Greenhow Hill. From the KOM, the race flew to the bottom of Otley Chevin before things truly got fast. Personally, I wanted to race this climb as fast as possible as it aids my more climbing style of ability.”

“Over the top, Eddie Dunbar managed to get a small gap and then the lead group of Chris Froome, Greg Van Avermaet to name a few and myself stalled a little while the team of CCC managed to get a few riders back into this group.”

“From here, CCC took up the chase over the steep sharp hills into Leeds where I managed to escape the lead peloton and chase the leaders into Leeds centre. I finished 5th on the stage ahead of the previous day’s stage winner and 5th overall on the GC”.

Along with a fantastic ride from James, the office at trainSharp was buzzing as Eddie Dunbar, who had been coached via the trainSharp Inspire Talent Programme before joining Sky, drove the break into the final kilometers of Stage 4.
