It was the turn of the Mid Shropshire Wheelers to promote round 5 of the Severn Valley Circuit Series at Shrewsbury Sports Village on Sunday May 19th.

Every cloud has a silver lining and when no pre entries came in for the under 14 and under 16 girls race, organiser Dave Mellor decided to use the 45 minute allocated time to add a bonus Time Trial event for all of the under 12 categories and this went down very well indeed.

Mid Shropshire Wheelers IT guru set up the event in less than 24 hours on the Mylaps chip timing system and even had track start beeps to signal the last 5 second countdown! Very impressive stuff for a schoolboy which shows club membership is not just about racing.

The racing was fast and furious and highlights included home club James Satoor taking the bunch sprint after an aggressive race in the combined under 14 and 16 boys event. A mystery why this talented and multi race winner is having entries rejected from National Series races.

In the Women’s race a small but spirited race took place at the end of the day with winner Jo Ryding taking a tumble after the rain had made the mossy surface a touch greasy on the bottom hairpin. A speedy remount and the incident hardly put her off her task of lapping the field for a deserved win. Joe Peatson and Robert Sansby were winners in the 2/3 and 4th Category races respectively in uphill headwind finishes today.
