News: Brother UK Extends Sponsorship
Brother UK will extend its commitment to the Brother UK- FusionRT elite women’s cycling team into a third consecutive season, announcing today that it will continue its sponsorship in 2020. Terry Williamson’s team has been a force throughout the 2019 season in British Cycling’s National Road Series for women, and is second in the team standings with just one race remaining.
The squad is comprised of established talents and rising stars, including Molly Patch, the three-time BUCS time-trial champion, and Claire Steels, a former world duathlon championship medallist for Team GB. Young talents including April Tacey and Georgia Bullard, new signings this season, have made an immediate impact.
Managing Director Phil Jones MBE said he was delighted to extend Brother UK’s support for the team, whose impressive results are derived from team spirit and camaraderie, as well as talent and tactics. “Brother UK- FusionRT has carried our name onto the podium of some of Britain’s most prestigious women’s races. The character and commitment of its riders, both off the bike and on, has made them superb ambassadors for our brand. I know that offering to continue our support into 2020, before this season has ended will give certainty to the team and its riders,” Jones said.
“Terry’s team has long supported the ambitions of women with careers outside of cycling, as well as granting opportunities to talented young riders destined for the sport’s highest echelon. Having stepped up to become title sponsor this season, I’m delighted to confirm that Brother UK will remain at their side in 2020, ensuring the team continues at a critical time for the domestic road racing scene.”
Brother UK – FusionRT made an impressive start to their campaign in the HSBC National Road Series by finishing second at the season-opening Klondike GP in April. After suffering a significant setback at the Women’s CiCLE Classic in June, where three riders, including Patch, Bullard and Steels, were all injured in a crash, they have regained second place in the national rankings.
Williamson said that Brother UK’s extended sponsorship was fundamental to the team’s existence, and highlighted the value of financial backing in a sport where deals offering equipment or value in kind is the norm. “Brother UK’s financial commitment means that we can continue to support a full squad of riders and take part in as many races at the highest level of the domestic sport as possible,” Williamson said.
“The value of Brother UK’s cash sponsorship in comparison to equipment is immeasurable. It means we can invest in the running costs of the team, without having to pass the financial stress onto riders.”
This year, Williamson’s vast experience has again paid dividends, helping riders like Steels, currently sixth in the national standings after a podium finish at the South Coast Classic, to deliver their best performances, while offering vital learning opportunities to Bullard and Tacey, two dazzling prospects. “It’s been our best season ever,” Williamson said. “We’ve had riders on the podium in the majority of races in 2019, and despite a setback at the CiCLE Classic, where we lost three riders, we’ve managed to regroup, and hope to seal our second place in the National Road Series at the Ryedale GP next weekend.”
In addition to supporting two women’s teams, including Brother UK – Tifosi, they also sponsor the Vitus Pro Cycling, p/b Brother UK men’s team, a UCI Continental squad competing in some of the most prestigious races in the UK and abroad. Brother UK also sponsors the Crimson Performance-Orientation Marketing team, which grants sporting opportunities to male and female riders in north west England.
Brother UK also sponsor VeloUK, enabling us to serve the sport here in Britain and the Neutral Service cars, at the side of the riders when they need help in races.
