News: Wright a stagiaire at CCC
Fred Wright, 20, will join Georg Zimmermann as a stagiaire with CCC Team for the remainder of the 2019 season with the British rider set to make his debut at the upcoming Deutschland Tour.
Wright, who won stage 7 of the Giro Ciclistico d’Italia this year, will have the chance to gain more experience on the road with a WorldTour operation, General manager Jim Ochowicz said.
“In the short time Fred Wright has spent as a road racer, he has shown a lot of potential which was confirmed with his stage win at the Giro Ciclistico d’Italia earlier this year. Like many other riders in the professional peloton who have come from a track background, Fred’s strength and his ability to dig deep will be a real asset to him as he continues his development. We are looking forward to having him with us in the coming months as a stagiaire,” Ochowicz said.
“Fred already has experience racing against WorldTour teams, at the Tour of Britain and Tour de Yorkshire for example, but he will now have the chance to learn from some our the most experienced riders, as well as working with our performance team, starting at the Deutschland Tour.”
Alongside his track commitments, Wright has enjoyed success in the junior and U23 ranks with wins at the Junior Tour of Wales in 2016 and a stage win and young rider classification at Ronde de l’Oise in 2018.
“I didn’t think I would necessarily be prioritizing racing on the road but the way that this year has gone, I would like to step up and try to race on the road for the next few years so, I’m really looking forward to racing with CCC Team as a stagiaire. It’s an exciting step in my career. I’ve had a few chances to race with the top guys on the road but this will be on another level,” Wright explained.
“I’m hoping to gain as much experience as possible and really just see what it’s like racing at the top level in a WorldTour team. I just want to enjoy it too. I like the look of my race schedule and I think the races will suit me as a rider.”
