Recruitment is currently in progress and riders who will be juniors in 2020 need to send expressions of interest to dan@cyclingperformancesquad.org by Monday 26th August 2019. Dan Small, Head Coach at Cycling Performance Squad said, “This partnership with Team Ribble encompassing the pathway through to Ribble Pro Cycling enhances our profile considerably and we are delighted to partner up with a forward-thinking organisation that shares our vision, and in Ribble Pro Cycling we’ve certainly got that, 100%.”
Tom Timothy, Team Principal of Ribble Pro Cycling said, “From the outset we have been passionate about the support and development of young bike riders, in line with their education. Even with our progression to UCI Continental status we have maintained a youth and junior focus through our development team – Team Ribble. Cycling Performance Academy forms partnership with Derby College
Cycling Performance Academy has formed a partnership with Derby College to offer a bespoke cycling academy combined with an academic education.
The newly formed Derby Cycling Performance Academy opens its doors in September 2019 with its first intake of riders who will be embarking on their 2-year chosen academic studies combined with a programme of cycling coaching and development led by the academy’s head coach, Dan Small.
Dan said, “We’re really excited about the partnership with Derby College, it’s going to make a huge difference to the level of support and opportunities we can offer riders. The step up from Youth to Junior Road Racing and beyond is massive, and without the right coaching and development, many riders leave the sport before exploring their full potential.”
Nick Ramsden, Head of Sports Academies at Derby College said, “We are delighted to be adding Cycling to our current line up of sports academies. Derby has a strong association with cycling and the addition of a cycling academy here helps create an ongoing legacy.”
The riders currently enrolled onto the 2019 Academy have been selected to race for the newly formed Ribble Cycling Performance Squad. Created from a recent merger, the development, coaching and support expertise from Cycling Performance Squad, combined with the infrastructure and alignment with Ribble Pro Cycling brings together all the elements needed to create a pathway for riders to reach the highest levels of the sport.
The new team will provide riders with a fully personalised coaching programme including regular UK training camps, additional overseas training and full race day support. Development sessions include educational workshops and on the bike training to provide a supportive environment for young riders to thrive. Numbers for the first year’s residential academy programme are limited but there are two spaces available for any non-residential riders looking to enrol in September 2019.
