Jonathan Dibben will strengthen the Lotto Soudal cycling team next year. The 25-year-old British rider who’s currently riding for Madison Genesis has signed a one-year contract
As a junior, Jon Dibben caught attention with amongst others a third place at Paris-Roubaix and a silver medal in the omnium at the track world championships. It earned him a place within the British Cycling Academy, a period which he concluded with the Points race world title (above) in London, 2016.
In 2017, Dibben signed a two-year pro contract with Team Sky and shifted his focus towards road racing. That year, the Brit won the individual time trial at the Tour of California. Earlier that year, the 25-year-old rider got a taste of the cobbled Classics with participations at the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. After two years at Team Sky, he participated in some six-day events early in 2019 before defending the colours of Madison Genesis for the remainder of the season.
Dibben is delighted to again race at WorldTour level next year and hopes to further progress at Lotto Soudal and to play a key role in the run-up to the sprints.

Jon Dibben: “I met with John Lelangue and Marc Sergeant during the Tour this year and it just seemed like a really good fit. The role I will have in the team and the races that will be on my schedule seem perfectly suited to what I want to be doing or what I think I can I do well at in racing. In the past, I have been involved in the sprints and I have already worked in lead-outs.
With the way Caleb Ewan has showed himself this year and with John Degenkolb arriving next year, it will stress the sprint aspect in the team even more. The kind of lead-out riders are really important in racing, which is something I am very good at. Lotto Soudal is also a Belgian team, so they know all about the Classics. The team really suits my character as a rider and I’m really looking forward to it.”
“Originally, I joined the British Cycling Academy and when I turned U23, I mainly focused on track racing for four years. I did that up to 2016, when I kind of finished off that period with the points race world title in London. At the end of that year, I did some road racing with Team Wiggins and the British team. Then, I joined Team Sky for two years, which was sort of a natural way to go from the track. At the end of last year, I did a little track racing in the winter and I raced for Madison Genesis this year.”
“I am more the type of rider for the faster kind of racing and to form the sharp end of the bunch sprint. But I also want to keep progressing in the time trial area, and I hope to attain some nice individual time trial results. There are races that include sprints all over the year, so my main role will be to work for the sprinters if they are present. Otherwise, I’ll be looking to race attractively myself and have a go in the breakaway. I want to keep progressing to where I’ve been, which means riding some of the bigger races and being involved in the racing a bit more.”
