News: New sponsors for Verulam Team
Verulam Reallymoving has confirmed its sponsors and squad for the 2020 season. Verulam CC and Reallymoving.com have been joined by two more Hertfordshire businesses, Rayner Essex and the Electric Bike Vault, in confirming 2020 sponsorship of the 35-strong racing team.
Verulam CC Chairman, Doug Driscoll said: “Creating the racing team has been a great success for Verulam CC. We’ve now successfully completed three full seasons as a race team and have been hugely successful in achieving the ambitions we set out with. Our youth squad now competes at the highest level nationally, including Will Smith having finished 2nd in the Under 16 National Youth Circuit Championship and our Seniors, Women and Masters teams are all taking regular podiums in road, track and cyclocross racing. Rayner Essex and Electric Bike Vault coming on-board for 2020 enables us to invest further in coaching for our athletes, to help us achieve even more in 2020”

Doug Driscoll also commented on the 2020 squad, saying: “Our team for 2020 looks to be the strongest we’ve ever had. As well as some hot new signings, we’ve had local talent including re-join us, and have riders coming through the Verulam CC ranks to join the racing team.”

“Several of our teenagers are on the British Cycling Talent Development Pathway so we’re expecting great things from them in 2020. We’d still like to bring some additional race-proven girls and women into the squad but we’re hopeful that more success in 2020 and being able to offer the coaching support that our new sponsors will fund, will encourage that”.
Continuing their successful 2019 season the team took podiums in the Central League Cyclocross Round 7 on Sunday 27th at Leighton Buzzard. Alfie Aldridge won the Juniors race, from Mayson Connor (Team MK) second and Angus Beggin (Bicester Millennium CC) third, whllst Verulam reallymoving’s Rachel Dunn took second place in the V40 womens race, with Fran Whtye (Velobants.cc) first and Samantha Hughes-Dowdle (Team MK) third. There were fourth places for both Verulam Reallymoving’s Liz McKie & Paul Caton in their respective races
From its offices in Central London and St Albans, Rayner Essex supports large corporates operating nationally and internationally, privately owned businesses of every size, professional practices, partnerships, sole traders and self-employed individuals. Specialising in providing accountancy and business advisory skills associated with those delivered by much larger firms, Rayner Essex is already well known for its support to the local community.
Antony Federer, Managing Partner at Rayner Essex, said: “As a local business we’ve always supported local sports teams, and we work closely with SportsAid, an organisation which helps the next generation of Olympian and Paralympians by giving them financial support to assist their training. Backing Verulam Reallymoving is an obvious choice of us. We’re aware of the success they’re having, particularly with the young up-coming racers and we’re really excited to see our support help the youths, juniors, seniors and masters achieve even more in 2020”
The Electric Bike Vault in Wheathampstead is a new entrant to Hertfordshire’s cycling business scene and supplies both the usual needs of the traditional cyclist in terms of bike servicing and support, but also specialises in e-Bikes – the latest technology that is revolutionising the cycle industry, using powered assistance to offer the less toned rider the chance to regain their fitness and join in on more demanding rides that they would otherwise be denied.

Leigh Stephenson, owner of the Electric Bike Vault, said: “From my youngest age I have been involved with bikes. I know the joy one experiences from cycling. To this end I am delighted to be supporting this forward-thinking team that embraces this passion in a very focused manner. The e-bikes we sell enable riders to go further, swifter and smoother than on a conventional, mechanical, bike. However, one of our core aims at Electric Bike Vault is encourage people to get out on their bikes, whether e-bikes, bikes for commuting or for sport. We’re therefore keen to encourage local youngsters to get inspired and supporting the Verulam Reallymoving racing team is a great way to do that”.
Rosie Rogers, Chief Operating Officer at Reallymoving.com, said: “We’re really looking forward to working with the team’s additional sponsors. We’re so pleased with the success that the team has had, but most importantly with how much it has re-ignited local interest in both racing and cycling in general. Seeing large crowds at events such as the Redbourn Fete du Velo, cheering on local racers, and hearing how the children at Verulam CC’s youth events now aspire to emulate local stars in the racing team, makes it all worthwhile for us at Reallymoving.”
