News: Tour of Britain Finishes in Aberdeen

Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils have agreed a deal to host the Tour of Britain in 2020 and 2021, beginning with the final stage of next year’s race on Sunday 13 September.

Building on the success of the Tour Series, rounds of which have taken place in Aberdeen since 2017, the UK’s longest-running international cycle race will also host its 2021 Grand Depart in the region. Not only will the 2020 stage mark the first time the Tour of Britain has visited the region, it will also be the furthest point north the modern edition of the race has ever reached.

Full details of the 2020 stage route will be unveiled in due course, although it can be revealed that the successor to Dutch sensation Mathieu van der Poel will be crowned in Aberdeen city centre following a day of racing largely set in the stunning Aberdeenshire countryside.

The 17th edition of the modern Tour of Britain takes place from Sunday 6 to Sunday 13 September 2020. Welcoming the race for the first time, Cornwall will host next year’s Grand Départ with a stage between Penzance and Bodmin. Stage two takes place in Devon, marking the 11th time that the county will have featured in the Tour.
