Already up and racing in 2020 with third in round 1 of the Bay Crits in Australia, Aussie super sprinter Brenton Jones will be racing for British UCI team Canyon DHB – we put some questions to him
Q&A: Brenton Jones (Canyon DHB)
– What are your key memories of racing in the UK for JLT?
Brenton: My best Memories come from races like the Tour Series and Tour of Britain. Working with a great bunch of riders, staff and my favourite DS/Manager John Herety would have to be great highlights too. I had a fantastic season and loved racing my bike in a fun environment but winning too.
– What will be your key goals for 2020 with Canyon DHB?
Brenton: For sure, UCI races in Europe. I know I can win them, it’s just making it happen and I feel Canyon dhb Soreen will be a good environment and team to make that happen. I’d love to race some Tour Series events, the Cicle Classic (gravel) and hopefully be selected in the squad in races like Yorkshire and Tour of Britain where I can not only try to perform but add value to the team with experience and leadership too.
– Was the race programme for Canyon DHB one of the deciding factors in signing for Tim?
Brenton: Absolutely. The calendar is spread all over and I’ll have chances to shine in Europe and the UK. I’m excited for what success we can achieve together next season.

– Being a crit champion, will you be looking to race them in 2020 in the UK especially if you win the Aussie title again?
Brenton: If I win the Aussie champs again, absolutely!! I love the Crits and I am looking forward to showing my strength in them for 2020.
– I’m told that in the European peloton, a sprinter needs a good sprint train especially if the world tour teams don’t want to help a rider surf the wheels? How have you found European bunch sprints?
Brenton: Crazy. They’re tough and so many guys aren’t in trains anymore for the sprints but I thrive off them. We have some powerful guys in the team next year and I’m pretty pumped to see what we can do for a lead out/s.
– What were your highlights with your French team in 2019?
Brenton: Racing Paris-Roubaix. It’s bloody amazing!! Winning a few races for the team and continuing to learn and speak French.
– Your season starts at the Bay Crits and Aussie Champs – how difficult mentally is it to get up to top form for them knowing you have a season in Europe ahead of you ?
Brenton: This year I’m not so stressed as I’ve just had my wedding, Christmas and holidays with the family so at this stage, my form should shine when I need it in Europe. I haven’t had the build up I usually do so I’ll be fresher come Europe racing.
Good luck to Brenton in 2020!
