Women’s Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

The top names from the elite women’s peloton come to ’t Kuipke again this year. Ghent welcomes top teams on the 29th of February to take the start in the 15th edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. A total of 24 teams will line up to contest the win in the opening classic of the cycling season. All eight Women’s WorldTeams and 16 UCI Women’s Continental Teams will be ready to take on the Flemish Ardennes and fight for the win at the finish line on the Onderwijslaan in Ninove.

Great traditions need to be cherished and therefore the men’s and women’s teams taking part in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will be presented to the public together at ’t Kuipke in Ghent. Just like the men’s race welcoming all WorldTeams, the same goes for the women’s race where all eight Women’s WorldTeams take part.

Mitchelton Scott of road world champion Annemiek van Vleuten is one of the eight teams of the highest level. Marianne Vos’ CCC-Liv team will be present, as will Trek-Segafredo of former winners Lizzie Deignan (2016) and Lucinda Brand (2017). CANYON//SRAM Racing, the team of 2013 Omloop winner Tiffany Cromwell are lining up as will Ale’-BTC Ljubljana, the team of 2019 Tour of Flanders winner Marta Bastianelli. The other three Women’s WorldTeams are FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope, Movistar Team Women and Team Sunweb.

Boels Dolmans Cycling Team is always strong and has three former winners in the team: Chantal Blaak (2019), Anna van der Breggen (2015) and Amy Pieters (2014). Belgian rider Jolien D’Hoore also forms part of this team.

Next to these teams, five Belgian teams will line up to try and win the race. Lotto Soudal Ladies, the team that signed Belgian road champion Jesse Vandenbulcke and 2018 Omloop winner Christina Siggaard over the winter, will be at the start. The other Belgian teams to look out for are Ciclotel, MULTUM Accountants – LSK Ladies Cycling Team, Doltcini-Van Eyck Sport UCI Women Cycling and Chevalmeire Cycling Team. British team Drops is the only team from the UK to ride the event.

Who will succeed Chantal Blaak as winner of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will become clear on the 29th of February. The detailed start list with all names of the participating riders will be announced later.
