After his first ride for the Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK team at the brutal Samyn GP, we asked the Irish rider Darnell Moore a few questions on how he found the race
Darnell racing in 2019
VeloUK: I understand this was your first proper Belgium cobbled classic. How did it feel pre -race compared to your previous races?
Darnell: I felt grand going into the race, no pressure obviously as it was a big step up in racing for me personally but overall, I was just really looking forward to getting stuck into the race and I was happy to get round.
VeloUK: I’m told there were a few moves going early on – how did you ride that first half of the race leading up to the break with Adam going away?
Darnell: I tried a few times to get into a few moves but it wasn’t working. It’s just a lottery and Adam ended up riding off solo for a while then getting joined by a few riders.
VeloUK: When ever I looked at TV images, the race was lined out. How did you find the second half of the race in the group you were in? Was there any time in the group you were able to relax?
Darnell: There was nowhere to relax in our group as we still pressed on well enough so it was still a difficult day out overall
VeloUK: What were the key moments in the race for you?
Darnell: Key moment was when we hit the cobbles for the first time, the race went to bits a few miles later on in a crosswind section it and it was seriously grippy for a long time. I’d never ridden cobbles before so it was an experience.
VeloUK: How did you find the course, cobbles, bergs, cross winds, the lot.
Darnell: I loved the course. Overall, the cobbles are class. I enjoyed every part of the course sd we never get that at home!
VeloUK: How would you sum up your first race with the team on a new bike and in new kit.
Darnell: It was nice starting a race in brand new kit, new bikes and a complete change of scenery for me overall. I’m looking forward to the next one already!
