News: Cyclone Festival of Cycling 2020

The full event line-up for the 2020 Cyclone Festival of Cycling has been confirmed following British Cycling’s announcement that the Curlew Cup women’s race and Beaumont Trophy men’s race are both to feature in their 2020 National Road Series.

News: Cyclone Festival of Cycling 2020

The full event line-up for the 2020 Cyclone Festival of Cycling has been confirmed following British Cycling’s announcement that the Curlew Cup women’s race and Beaumont Trophy men’s race are both to feature in their 2020 National Road Series.

Event Organiser Peter Harrison said: “I’m really pleased that our two races have once again been included in British Cycling’s prestigious National Series. We put a lot of work into making these races tough, testing, exciting to watch and spectator-friendly. We also work hard to make the Festival weekend an accessible, inspiring and enjoyable experience for cyclists of all abilities, with fun, family events at one end of the spectrum and elite races at the other end and all showcasing the beauty and history of the North East of England!”

Men’s National Road Series
19 April: East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix
10 May: Men’s Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix
30-31 May: Tour of the Reservoir
14 June: Lancaster Grand Prix
28 June: Beaumont Trophy
5 July: Circuit of the Mendips
12 July: Stockton Cycling Festival Grand Prix
19 July: The Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix

Beaumont Trophy Event Info: The 2020 Beaumont Trophy will be on the afternoon of Sunday 28th June. The race takes place around the village of Stamfordham, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne and takes in the often race-defining climb of the Ryals, just North of the village of Matfen. The race will consist of four laps of a 25 mile loop followed by a single lap of a 14 mile loop, adding up to 114 miles.

Curlew Cup Event Info: The 2020 Curlew Cup will be on the morning of Sunday 28th June. The race takes place around the village of Stamfordham, close to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and takes in the tough climb of the Ryals, just North of the village of Matfen. The race will consist of two laps of a 25 mile loop followed by a single lap of a 14 mile loop, adding up to 64 miles.

The Public Events
The 2020 Cyclone Festival of Cycling includes six public rides, from 10 miles to 108 miles in length and suitable for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Tyne Bridges Family/Fun Rides: The Festival opens with the Tyne 6 Bridges family rides on Friday evening, 26th June. Both routes (10 & 15 miles) take riders along a flat, traffic-free route by the river Tyne, under and over the rover’s iconic bridges and past some of the most historic riverside sites in the UK. These rides are suitable for cclists of all ages and abilities.

The Cyclone Challenge Rides: These rides take place on Saturday 27th June and offer routes of 34, 65, 93 and 108 miles. Beautiful Northumberland is explored along minor roads and lanes, with testing climbs being off-set against matchless views.
