News: Jumbo-Visma chases yellow dream
From August 29 to September 20, Team Jumbo-Visma will hunt for the yellow jersey in the Tour de France. The Dutch World Tour formation tries to finish on the highest step of the podium in Paris with one of the two leaders, Primoz Roglic and Tom Dumoulin.
Originally Team Jumbo-Visma had planned to start the Tour de France with three leaders, but Steven Kruijswijk had to cancel due to an injury. George Bennett, Sepp Kuss and Robert Gesink assist Roglic (above) and Dumoulin in the mountain stages. The two leaders can also count on the support of Tony Martin, Amund Jansen and Wout van Aert.
After an altitude camp in Tignes, part of the Tour squad prepared in the Tour de l’Ain and Critérium du Dauphiné. The riders of Team Jumbo-Visma showed in these races that they have a good shape in preparation for La Grande Boucle. This Saturday, the peloton will start in Nice in the south of France. In the first stages, the riders immediately face a lot of altitude meters, which immediately puts the classification riders on edge.
Tom Dumoulin: “Primoz and I are both going for the GC”, Dumoulin said. “In the last week ,we will see where we stand. I feel good and I am happy with the way I raced in the Dauphiné and the Tour de l’Ain. I needed those races to get better. It will be a battle between several riders and teams. About twenty riders are at the start with the ambition to finish on the podium or even win. We have to make sure we are the best. I feel good and I am happy to be at the start of the Tour.”
Besides Kruijswijk, Roglic also crashed in Critérium du Dauphiné. In the meantime he has recovered sufficiently to be able to start in the Tour. “Unfortunately, crashing is part of our sport”, the Slovenian champion said. “Fortunately I have recovered and I feel fit. It’s nice to be here after my crash. I’m ready. In the end the best rider will prevail. It is really nice to have a strong rider like Tom in the team. Together we will do our very best.”
