Canyon dhb SunGod: Damien Clayton Moves Teams

Damien Clayton joins the team from Ribble Pro Cycling for 2021. Damien got into racing relatively late, but he has shown to be a strong rider with a UCI win (Grand Prix des Marbriers) already to his palmeres and someone Tim has had his eye on for a while.

In 2019, Damien won his first UCI race: Grand Prix des Marbriers and his first National A race: the Bourne CiCLE Classic as well as bagging numerous top 10’s in the UK and Europe.  Damien is pleased to be joining Canyon dhb SunGod in 2021 and says “Since starting my racing journey in 2017 I’ve always looked up to the Canyon team, admired their approach and has been a team I’ve been striving towards”.

“I have developed a good relationship with most of the riders and some staff, most notably Rory Townsend and whom I am extremely excited to be riding and working with. I believe the team will suit me the most in terms of the racing calendar and approach to racing. I chose the team as I believe Tim and Simon can really develop me as a rider and racer which I am eager to do”.

“I am most looking forward to really being part of a team and absorbing as much of the experience as I can with a hopefully better racing calendar in 2021.”

Tim Elverson, team owner and sports director: “Damo is a bit older and was late to the cycling party, so he is still very young in his cycling years. He has been a friend of the team from his beginning and we have given him trinkets of advice across the years, so I felt the time was right to give him the full package and see how well he responds. I’m expecting to see some quick development with him becoming a key cog in team results both for himself and helping others.”

Damien is looking forward to getting involved and gaining as much experience as possible: “My main goals for 2021 would be to develop my racing knowledge and build up more foreign racing experience. I’m not specifically targeting anything as such apart from performing well in races where the parcour suits me.”
