Chris Froome starts 2021 in Argentina: Chris Froome will make his debut for Israel Start-Up Nation early in the new year in Argentina to ride the Vuelta a San Juan there. The eight-day stage race starts on January 24, 2021.

The four-time Tour winner trained in California in recent weeks. “This competition marks the beginning of a new chapter in my career,” said the former Tour winner “I look forward to racing with new teammates and getting everything rolling in the new adventure that lies ahead.”

Rik Verbrugghe, who until recently was the national coach of Belgium, explains that Froome will use the Vuelta a San Juan to get in shape. “He is not going to Argentina to win the Tour”, the Belgian sports director admits. “We see it as a perfect opportunity for Chris to start a process that will work towards a peak further into the season.”

Israel Start-Up Nation will go for stage wins in Argentina. The WorldTour team has selected Froome, Rudy Barbier (who won a stage in San Juan in 2020), Guy Niv, Tom Van Asbroeck, Alex Cataford and Patrick Bevin.
