The Limburger is planning to make his debut in the E3 Saxo Bank Classic and the Tour of Flanders is also featured on his provisional competition schedule. Dumoulin will start his season with an Italian triptych consisting of the Strade Bianche (March 6), Tirreno-Adriatico (March 10-16) and Milan-San Remo (March 20).

Then he opts for two Flemish classics. On March 26, the E3 Saxo Bank Classic is on his program for the first time and a week later also the Tour of Flanders. For Dumoulin it will be his second appearance in Flanders’ finest. In 2012, in his debut year with the pros, he was called up as a reserve to replace a sick teammate. At the time he did not reach the finish. This competition program is also good news for Wout van Aert. This means that the Vaamse classic specialist has a strong extra teammate in the months of March and April.

Due to his choice of Flemish cobblestone prices, Dumoulin will skip the Amstel Gold Race this year. The Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège are also not on his schedule. At the end of April, he will close the spring with the Tour de Romandie (April 27-May 2). It looks like the changes in the spring will not affect the grand tours. Next week, this will be discussed at the training camp in Alicante. The preference seems to go to the Tour de France.
