2021 Liège-Bastogne-Liège – a new climb

In the next edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the riders will be faced with a new climb, the Côte de Desnié, a climb of more than four kilometres at about 6%. The summit of the Côte de Desnié is just under fifty kilometres from the finish, about ten kilometres before the foot of the iconic Col de la Redoute.

The Côte de Desnié is actually the replacement for the Col du Maquisard. This climb disappears from the course. The men will leave Liège on Sunday April 25 for a race of 259.5 kilometres. There are eleven climbs along the way, with well-known ascents such as the Côte de Wanne, the Côte de Stockeu, the Col du Rosier, La Redoute and the decisive Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons. Primož Roglič won “La Doyenne” last year.

The women have a race of 141 kilometres on Sunday, April 25, with seven climbs along the way. That is two more than last year. The women also have to deal with the steep ascents of the Côte de Wanne, the Côte de Desnié, La Redoute and the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons along the way. The start is in Bastogne, the finish in Liège. The organization can count on 23 teams, just like in the Flèche Wallonne. Lizzie Deignan won the event in 2020.
