News: Quickstep off to Spain to train

Quickstep off to Spain to train – “I think there will be a lot of traveling by car in the first few months.”

Deceuninck-Quick-Step is holding a third and final training camp in two different hotels with a view to the Spring. “At about thirty kilometres apart,” sports director Wilfried Peeters emphasizes in conversation with Het Nieuwsblad. “Normally we now have a core of the team in the Tour of the Algarve.”

However, the Portuguese stage race has been postponed. “This is the alternative” says Peeters. “Also, because the weather in Belgium is too bad for us to train. It will be different from next week. In total we have about seventeen riders without Remco Evenepoel, who will continue to ride on the rollers at home for the time being. ”

Logistical challenges – “It is continually shifting”, says Peeters. “On Wednesday, a team including Sam Bennett and Iljo Keisse will leave for the United Arab Emirates, where the WorldTour (UAE Tour) will start on 21 February. ”

“In terms of logistics, you really have to watch out. Take Strade Bianche, a week after Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Air traffic is so minimal that you have to leave two days earlier to arrive on time. I think there will be a lot of traveling by car in the first few months.
