Cavan Walker of Loughborough Students produced a strong finish to cross the line the clear winner from a three man break in the 2021 Team PB Performance Road Race. Cavan was followed home in second place by his team mate Marinus Peterson to round out a Loughborough 1-2 on the day, whilst the last rider of the three man break, Charlie Renshaw of Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy, rounded out the podium in third place.

The racing on the undulating Breedon circuit was aggressive and attritional throughout. There was constant attacking throughout and although a longstanding break was never established the aggressive racing was clear from the fact that the main field was reduced by half by the end of the race.

It wasn’t until the final lap that news of a three man break with a 20 second advantage crackled over the race radios and by the time the race entered the finishing straight for the final time it was down to just the two Loughborough riders to contest the finish. Cavan Walker opened his sprint early and never looked like being beaten, crossing the line several bike lengths in front of Marinus Peterson in second place.
