Result: Tour of Sussex 2021
This year’s Tour of Sussex was condensed into 2 days and 3 stages over the 18th & 19th of September. With a new course at Halland and Beachy Head as the queen stage, the organisers lined up the riders for an interesting weekend. A win on the final stage after keeping his time losses minimal on the first two stages, saw junior Lucas Towers win the overall of the Tour of Sussex 2021; Other stage winners were James Alexander and Samuel Clark. Lucas also won the final stage of the Junior Tour of Wales and the KoM jersey and second overall in a Spanish international. The Cero Wheels/Cycle Division rider was guesting for the Holohan Coaching Race Team.

STAGE 1
Stage 1 was to be held on the new Halland course, a 12 mile flat to rolling course, designed with sprinters in mind. The race got off to a fast start with the bunch deciding not to hang around. This shut down pretty much all attempts to escape, but not to be deterred James Alexander of Holohan Coaching Team, Sam Clarke of TBW Stuart Hall Racing, and Guy Drabble from Geared up C&N Cycles RT giving the peloton the slip and sprinting it out for the stage and yellow. STAGE 2
Stage 2 took in the original Women’s Tour of Sussex individual time trial directly up from Eastbourne Seafront to Beachy Head. This is a challenging course, but with almost no wind and a warm afternoon, the times were epic, getting close to the Tour of Britain’s time up the same road!

STAGE 3
Stage 3 over the famed Beachy Head, saw a plethora of strong attacks with Harry Evens of Kingston Wheelers riding away from the pack and stay out alone for most of the race, only being caught with approx 2 laps to go by the chasers. With the bunch decimated, it was left to yellow jersey Sam Clarke to chase the breakaway riders, but even a super-strong showing from the TBW Stuart Hall rider could not close the gap enough and Lucas Towers from Holohan Coaching RT took the stage and with it the final GC.
