News: West Midlands RR League

With two rounds of this year’s West Midlands road race league already run, entries are welcomed for the next few races, starting with the Wyre Forest Spring road race on April 16, and the Phil Ward Memorial RR on May 7. Winners of the first two rounds were Joe Brookes of Halesowen Academy at his own club’s race on March 19, and Dave Griffiths of Clee Cycles at the Two Counties RR at Bobbington on April 2.

Entries for the Wyre Forest race close over Easter; the race marks a return to the relatively undemanding Broadheath circuit near Martley in Worcestershire and is back on the calendar after a one-year break. The Phil Ward Memorial RR, for 2nd, 3rd and 4th cats, is run by Paramount CRT and takes in seven laps of the rolling 10-miles circuit at Leighton in Shropshire; a long-standing mainstay of the West Midlands calendar, it was won in 2021 by Alex Pritchard of Wattshop. The series continues with the Halesowen A & CC road race on May 21 on the demanding Astley circuit.

Also in West Midlands, pre-registration is still open for the Thursday evening handicap races run by the Shropshire and South Staffordshire league, offering nine events on a variety of road circuits from May 11.
