Team News: Harry Tanfield signs for Saint Piran

One of the UK’s most popular and experienced riders Harry Tanfield (28) has signed for UK UCI Men’s Continental Team Saint Piran Pro-Cycling.

Harry will race for the successful Cornish team in 2024 but both parties look on this move as a longer-term partnership to develop the team and UK cycling. Saint Piran Pro-Cycling will be launching a number of exciting developments in 2024, complementing their approach to do things differently. Signing Harry is a step towards that goal as he joins his brother Charlie, World Champion Will Tidball and former World Tour rider Alex Richardson in the memorable black and white kit of Saint Piran.

Yorkshireman Harry has an outstanding pedigree having ridden at the UCI World Tour level for Team Katusha–Alpecin, AG2R La Mondiale and Team Qhubeka Assos. He joins from Dutch Continental Team TDT-Unibet who he rode for in 2023.

Richard Pascoe, Team owner, said: “Having a rider with the ability, skill and intelligence of Harry is an incredible lift for everyone as we enter the new season. We want Harry to play a significant part in the management of the team long-term alongside other leaders such as Alex Richardson.

“2024 will herald a huge development year for the Saint Piran group across road, track and off-road. With an exciting road programme and continued sustainability and mental health goals to deliver, Harry’s experience of riding at the top level will bring so much to the team.”

Harry said: “I have been talking to Ricci for some time about the Saint Piran project. I loved my time at TDT-Unibet, but the opportunity to come back to a UK team with a strong domestic and international program, trying to do things differently is exciting for me.

“I love the fact I will be using my experience to develop young riders, the team and importantly the UK domestic race scene. Working with Ricci and the team is one of the most exciting developments in my cycling career. Bring on 2024.”

Harry will join up with his team mates later in November as pre-season training gets fully underway. His first race for the team in black and white will be finalised early in 2024.

The Saint Piran Cycling Group is developing a self funded, financially stable model. Its stated aim is to have an impact in racing, in cycling and in society. The group continues to deliver on that intention with multiple wins in the UK and on the continent, mountain bike podiums and world and national champions on the track. It also runs regular free to ride sessions for local communities and the South West women’s road race league.
