John Bardsley winner of the E/1/2/3/4 SACA Salt Ayre Papervelo Tuesday Series round 2 on April 23rd in Lancashire
Crit Result: SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series Rd 2
Organised by Cog Set Papyrus
Week 2 of the SACA Salt Ayre Tuesday Series series, sponsored by Papervelo was a 25 lap handicap Points race with points for first four riders over the line every 5th lap from laps 5 to 25, with double points awarded for the final sprint.
There were four groups in the handicap with one 4th cat rider (Daniel Lloyd) bravely going off first, followed by a large 3rd cat group at 55 seconds, a large 2nd cat group at 1 min 40 and just 3 1st cats and one Elite at 1 min 55.
The last group to start immediately went one lap down as a hard working Daniel Lloyd completed his first lap. Within the next half lap the 1st/Elite group had caught and passed Daniel and, back on the lead lap, were chasing down the group of 2nd cats, who were also working well together in chasing down the already splintered 3rd cats group.
It was obvious that Daniel had one intention and that was to cross the line for the first sprint first. He managed to achieve this with his lead reduced to less than 100 metres over the fast charging 2nd cats who had already caught the 3rd cats.
In the following lap, the 1st/Elite group had managed to catch the rest of the field and even catch Daniel. The race continued apace. Into the final 10 laps and Alex Luhrs was prominent at the front of the race and even made a solo breakaway which he managed to hold until a hard working group of 3 riders caught him on the final lap. Into the final sprint finish, the group of 4 was suddenly reduced to 3 when a gear slip/jump unfortunately unseated Julian Pearson.
The points competition was won, by a single point, by Alex Luhrs of Leadout Performance, to receive a prize from Papervelo. Credit must go to Daniel Lloyd who’s effort to win the first sprint gave him 4th overall in the points table.
The race result was a sprint finish win for John Bardsley (360 cycling) from Ben Granger (MGKVIS Colours for Peace) and Alex Luhrs (Leadout Performance).
