Tom Williams and Lucy Lee of DAS Hutchinson Brother UK were the big winners in two very tough races in North Yorkshire on Sunday
Result: Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix 2024
Lucy Lee of DAS Hutchinson Brother UK sprinted to victory in the first race on Sunday at Ampleforth. Lucy was part of a small selection of the top riders in Britain that stayed well clear of the peloton and won the race ahead Scotland’s Lauren Dickson (Alba Dev Road Team) and Lancaster Grand Prix winner Frankie Hall, also of DAS Hutchinson Brother UK. making it a 1-3 for the leading team in the series. Frankie tried to go solo from the breakaway but Dickson wasn’t going to let her escape from her and Eilidh Shaw in the breakaway and brought her back to the select group at the front of the race. Eilidh Shaw, 5th in the race, took over the series leader’s jersey from Lucy Harris who missed the move and finished 16th.
In the Men’s race, it was a battle of attrition and by the end, after over 100 riders started the race, less than 30 finished after attack after attack wore out the legs of most of the riders leaving just a select group at the front of the race sprinting it out. After Tom Martin tried to go solo two laps out, and was brought back into the front group, the race was decided in a sprint. Rowan Baker of Saint Piran explained afterwards how he went to the front with 2k to go and stayed there until the final meters when he was passed by winner Tom Williams and Matt Holmes. Baker was third. George Kimber of Spirit TBW Stuart Hall Cycling, the series leader, held onto his leader’s jersey with 10th in the race in that front group.
