BMCR RESULT: API – Anglia Sport – Criterium des Vainqueurs
(September 29) at Colchester

Rider report of the E/F/G/H/W race from Paul Stewart: After a week of riding in Andalusia, I arrived at Stansted Airport at 8.00am and was then on my way to Colchester to try and defend the API, Criterium des Vainqueurs. Firstly, it was freezing compared to what I had been riding in, in Spain…..never mind, a warm up on rollers kind of got me going. On the start line, Big Kev gave his welcome speech and we were off. Chris Brakes making the race instantly hard, my legs were feeling jet lagged to say the least….

After 20 minutes of Chris trying to get away, finally the elastic snapped and 6 classy riders established the break of the day. Adrian Ward, adding some final touches to his form for the upcoming Masters track worlds. Deano Sibthorpe, Richard New and Martin Meades….a lot of cat and mouse started but only after a good gap was formed and with a lot of good sprinters in the group it wasn’t surprising…..coming into the last bend Deano had the lead and held on for a fine win, I managed second place with Adrian 3rd, both of us moving down on step from last year’s podium… Deano is a worthy winner he now has the impressive shield to look after. A big thank you to Kevin Hickman and the API boys, of which I am one, for what is for me one of the best events on our BMCR Calendar. Chapeau to all involved.
