NEXT WEEK: BRITISH CYCLOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS – CYCLOPARK

ENTRIES STILL OPEN!

With standard entries closing this weekend, here are the latest details of the course for the National Cyclo Cross championships at Cyclopark Charity Trust.

Regular racers at National Trophy events at this venue will notice some very significant changes.

Mainly the repositioned start line next to the flyover – for my money the best cyclocross courses have the pits, start and finish lines in very close proximity, so very soon after last season NT event, I looked at the potential of moving the start up next to the flyover which means you (riders) and your helpers don’t have that long trudge down to the far end of the course and back again for every race. It also means that spectators NOT wanting to make that walk will get to see an explosive race start as riders blast straight off the line into the road hill before making a sharp right at the top of the course into the moguls section.

The opening road section is nowhere near as long as previous events which will please many, but it does mean a good start is even more essential with early turn into the moguls and within just a couple of minutes the leaders will be back in sight for the first entry into the pits via the flyover, so it should be a high intensity opening to each race.

The jet wash area is the opposite end of the oval to previously, which means a bit of extra effort to get your gear down there but it’ll be worth it as there’s no more standing around in those thorn bushes while you clean your bikes, the drainage is much better down that end and it’s more than twice the size of the previous jet wash area.

Elsewhere, there are significant tweaks to existing areas and some entirely new sections but as ever at this venue, the emphasis is on a high technical content whatever the conditions turn out to be on the day.

All the regular favourites are included – we’re going for 30cm boards for the junior and senior races, all 47 of the Ride for Charlie steps are in, and the triple-rutted muddy off camber transition has somehow, following our training days, become a five rut transition which as you can see in the picture, was today frozen so hard that if you went into any one of them, you weren’t coming out again 😁

Please share and pay attention to the changes/instructions of where things are and how to get there on the maps, compared to previous races here, there are some significant differences – this is a national champs and we’re looking at a hell of a lot of people in a very small area and how to best get everyone to be where they want to be…

Most importantly – entries are still open so get them in and be a part of it. Looking forward to seeing you all next weekend, volunteers very welcome if you want to help, spectators very welcome if you want to watch, but I’d rather see you in the race – so entries here 👉
