QUIZ TIME! Q&A with young talent Mark Ketteringham (Prologue Junior Race Team) who I saw win the Youth race at Beverley in 2024 and race at Otley, Ilkley, and the North West Youth Tour ….

Harrogate based Mark Ketteringham has been racing his bike on the Yorkshire youth scene across multiple disciplines for many years. For 2025, Mark is making the significant step up from Under 16 youth racing to his 1st year in the Junior ranks with an ambitious race program in his new team, Prologue Junior Race Team.

Winning at Beverley in 2024

VeloUK: What were your racing highlights of 2024?
Mark: It’s got to be wearing the polka dot jersey for 2 days at the Youth Tour of Scotland and then later in the season, winning the Beverley GP was pretty good.

VeloUK: How long have you been bike racing?
Mark: I started racing young, when I was 6 years old, and have been racing ever since. I initially started racing cyclocross and then moved on to the road and grass track racing. This season I am solely focusing on the road.

VeloUK: Who will you be racing for in 2025?
Mark: I’ve moved teams for 2025, joining Prologue Junior Race Team. They’re a well-established and respected squad locally based to me in Yorkshire. They’ve got an extensive European calendar of UCI races lined up for this year and we’ll also be racing the British Cycling Junior National Series.

VeloUK: What are the key events in 2025 that you’re looking forward to?
Mark: We’ve got a really busy race program planned which includes 10 European UCI races in Spain, Belgium, France, Italy and Luxembourg. We kick off the season in March with two UCI races in Spain at Costa Blanca Challenge and Gran Premi KH7. I’m particularly looking forward to GP Plouay in France in August, a race that former Prologue rider Joe Turnbull finished 3rd in (2023). The hilly parcour should suit me and with it being later in the season, I’ll have a bit more experience at this higher level of junior racing.

VeloUK: Will this be your first experience of racing abroad?
Mark: No, I raced cyclocross at Hulst last year which was a great experience. The scale and professionalism of the European races feels to be on another level to most UK events.

VeloUK : What have you learnt from racing as a youth that stand out for you?
Mark: 2024 was a mixed year. I learnt to overcome adversity and I think this will help with the unpredictable nature of junior racing.

VeloUK: How’s the winter training going?
Mark: I had shoulder surgery in November, so I’ve not been racing cross this winter. I have a coach, and post-surgery, I’ve been following my training plan initially on the turbo, but now I’m back on the road.

Good luck to Mark making that big step up from circuit racing to proper road racing in Europe with the Prologue Junior race team!
