Report/Result: PDQ Winter Grand Prix

WOMEN’S 2/3/4
The women’s 2/3/4 race experienced a first lap racing incident and crash, leading to a shortened 30 minute race. The re-started race was won by Katherine Barnes (Bristol University CC) in a solo break, with Emily Tillett (Reflex Nopinz) and Jen Lemen (PDQ Cycle Coaching Property Elite) and finishing in a sprint for 2nd and 3rd respectively. Katherine had a fantastic ride and win the week before at the Avid Odd Down race, and we look forward to seeing what else she can do this season. The main bunch stuck together but didn’t gain time on the podium places – Zoe Bainbridge (University of Bath Cycling Club) went early to finish 4th, followed by the rest of the pack in a sprint finishes for the minor places.

MEN’S 40+ MASTERS RACE
The men’s 40+ master’s race was won by Justin Hoy (Pronto Bikes), followed by Steven Whitehurst (Reflex Nopinz) and Charles Thibault (Bath Cycling Club). An early break went away, including riders from Pronto Bikes, PDQ Cycle Coaching Property Elite, Bath Cycling Club and Reflex Nopinz. At the halfway point, Justin Hoy (Pronto Bikes) jumped across solo to the seven man break, which had a lead of around 30 seconds and was dominated by Reflex Nopinz riders. In the last 5 laps, Gavin Lancaster of PDQ Cycle Coaching Property Elite, Andrew Warren of Pronto Bikes and two further Reflex Nopinz riders made it across to the break.

At this point, the first four riders went off the front of the lead group and held the gap until the finish. John Russell of Reflex Nopinz led out his teammate, Steven Whitehurst, whilst Justin Hoy and his legendary sprint won him his first race of the year. Gavin Lancaster of PDQ Property Elite won the bunch sprint to take 5th place. John Russell in 4th place won the best V50 rider.
