Result: West Midlands Youth Series 4

Round 4 of the West Midlands British Cycling Youth Series took place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village Cycle Track on Sunday 11th May, promoted by Newport CC on a scorching Shropshire day.

Round 4 of the West Midlands British Cycling Youth Series took place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village Cycle Track on Sunday 11th May, promoted by Newport CC on a scorching Shropshire day. Not only did we have cycling but we were royally entertained by a contest of CheerLeader Troupes on the adjacent netball courts and kept on our toes by some truly abysmal football. Balls lofted over the derelict safety netting and cycling parents pulling off super saves to stop the errant balls from bouncing into the bunches of enthusiastic West Midlands youngsters.

Fantastic turnout of younger categories under 6, 8, 10 and 12 with slightly less in the under 14 and 16s but with many locals conflicted with the NPS Mountain Bike Series and a local Aquathon.

Ride of the day was possibly from the very aggressive Micah Johnson Hayward of Wolverhampton Wheelers when a lap gain looked on the cards he visibly backed off saving himself for an attack on the later under 16 race. This wasn’t to be as Xander Brandon-Higgs, Hafren CC played poker with the field, resolutely sitting on the back of the bunch to launch a full on attack at half distance taking with him William Morris of Beeston Cycling Club. Lapping the field towards the end of the race Morris had different designs on the outcome and came through at the head of the lapped bunch with Brandon-Higgs caught up mid pack.

Next race of the British Cycling West Midlands Youth Series is on May 25th and promoted by Mid Shropshire Wheelers. Entries close one whole week prior to race day.
