TT Result: Harold Cribb 25 mile TT

CLUB REPORT: Absolutely glorious weather for the 25-mile open TT today. Wall-to-wall sunshine and a warm May morning nearly made it perfect conditions. But a North-Easterly wind continued to get stronger as the event went on making the 3 outward legs to Holes Bay roundabout a slog!

46 riders were signed up for the race, but there were 7 DNS on the day. Leading the field out was time trialling legends on their tandem trike, Norman Harvey and Mary Corbett. At 92, Norman was the oldest rider in the field today and a role model for how long you can keep riding competitively for. Mary and Norman set a still quick time of 1:15:57.

Leading the individual TT field out was Terry Belbin, a Poole Wheelers legend who has ridden nearly 750 TTs for Poole Wheelers and been instrumental in recording 20 years of club results. Today Terry set a time of 1:06:37, 23 seconds quicker than last year.

In the open TT category, with Jamie Whitcher was the man in form and took home the quickest time of the day with an incredible 48:13. In doing so he also took the course record set in 2023 by Sam Wadsley, who had set a blisteringly quick 48:53.

Sam was the closest rival to Jamie today. The old hand to time trialling was held off his nearest rival, Howard Bayley by 14 seconds, setting a 50:46 and a 51:00 respectively.

In the Female TT bike category, disaster struck two of the riders. Michelle Lindley and Natalie Green seemed set to challenge for the best times of the day, but on the final lap they missed a turn which shortened the course for them. We won’t know how tight it would have been between the top 3 but it allowed Claire Dewhirst to take the quickest time on a TT bike of 1:12:29.

Seven riders competed for the quickest Road bike and set some incredibly quick times on the day. Brett Wheeler, self proclaimed “aero as a brick”, proved despite his Brick like shape can still go quick and set the quickest time of 52:52. Following in behind, was Dan Newman, with his dialled in Road Bike postion proving to be very fast, 2nd in the category and 7th overall with a 53:53. Rounding of the top 3 was Ashley Newman. Still finding his form from is 1800 mile Ultra Race win in September, set a time of 54:47.

Beverley Hards of New Forest CC took the quickest time on her debut on the fast P413. With a time of 1:06:22 it was also enough to be the quickest overall time of the day!

Todays Vet field was stacked full of quick riders. But best of them all was Howard Bayley, he was the fastest Vet and fastest age adjusted Vet leading to a healthy prize hall for the day. Setting an actual time of 51:00 minutes led to a Age Adjusted time of 49:26. The ever-quick Paul Jones (who said at the time he was expecting to be slow!) was not far behind, his age adjusted time was 50:08 (derived from 50:08). Third overall was last years VTTA Wessex 25 mile champion Peter Tomlin with age adjusted time of 51:00 from a actual time of 58:55.

In the Junior competition, Robbie Fall was the quickest rider. A few days after his 18th birthday, Robbie was able to celebrate going under the hour for the first time, beating last years time over 3 minutes. His new 25-Mile PB is 58:28.
