Leicestershire road club are delighted to promote the 4th Owen Blower Memorial Road Race together with a supporting event for 2/3/4 category riders

STARTLIST: Owen Blower Memorial Road Race & Category 2/3/4 support race, part of EMRRL on Sunday 8th June and promoted by Leicestershire Road Club

Leicestershire road club are delighted to promote the 4th Owen Blower Memorial Road Race together with a supporting event for 2/3/4 category riders and as part of the EMRRL. The 2nd 3rd & 4th cat riders take on 6 laps (56 miles) of the sporting circuit (Walton on the Wolds/Six hills) at 9.30am followed by Owen Blower memorial later in the day (1.30pm). A National B Women’s event, the riders tackle 7 laps, measuring over 100km’s of racing (66 miles) as they fight it out for the Owen Blower Memorial

Owen Blower — 1932 – 2020: A tough competitor and true clubman, Owen Blower was a Life Member of the Leicestershire Road Club for over 70 years. He broke his first National Competition Record for 50 miles with LRC teammates in 1950 aged 18. Owen went on to win the British Best All Rounder Championship in 1958 breaking the 12-hour record with 271.8 miles. Which stood for 9 years.

Owen rode over 100 races for Great Britain, including being the only British rider to finish four Peace Races. He had a successful pro career in the UK and in France. After retiring from racing Owen organised several road races for LRC. As Club president he secured club sponsorship with Kirby & West. Owen coached and supported many local riders to successful careers.

In his 40’s and 60’s Owen broke several National Vets Records & won his age-related World Championship in 1997. In 1998 he won the National Veterans BBAR 40 years after winning the BBAR. Owen was an active cyclist and club member until his death in 2020
