Report & results from week 13 and the final round of the Bournemouth Arrow/Raymond Brown track league

Gawain Bailey (Performance Cycles) convincingly won the Raymond Brown sponsored, Bournemouth Arrow track league as round 13 brought the league season to an end.

Lechlade-based Bailey made the 200 mile round trip every week and deserved the lion’s share of the £700 prize pot. The fight for second place was a closer affair, the battle between Steve Moss & Dave Gilham (Bournemouth Arrow) going down to the wire, Moss eventually sneaking it.

Ellie Gilham (VC ST Raphael/Waites Contracts) won the ladies league, back in May Gilham looked comfortable, by July she was looking over her shoulder as Becky Raybould (Poole Wheelers) got closer and closer. Alex Jolliffe (Poole Wheelers) comfortably won the youth category; Brendan Drewett (Fareham Wh) may have pushed Jolliffe closer had he ridden more rounds.

The two 15 year olds started in the B group but ended in the A group,” if you are good enough, you are old enough” On the final night Harrison Fielding showed what might have been, winning three races including the final 15km scratch race that saw him take 4 laps on the field. Fielding was forced to sit out the early rounds due to a knee injury.

Take nothing away from Bailey though, he was with Fielding taking 4 laps also and when he was not winning the 46 year old was always placing. “ It’s a 100 mile drive to get here and we arrive early so I can get on the track, I love riding this track, its brilliant. I have won Reading Track league in the past but I prefer this track, it is the right shape for the nationals and the world masters. I have promised the family a holiday so we are going to ride some mountains in France next week” said Bailey
