A more local affair at the Stratford CC 10-mile time trial would provide Matt Clinton (Kenilworth), riding for Mike Vaughan Cycles with his 4th win in 5 events this season.

A change of course for the event saw the 2010 National 10-mile Championships course used, but strong winds would prove to hamper rider’s times on this typically quick course. Buffeted by crosswinds swirling around on the outward leg, it would be extremely tough on riders to control their bikes for the majority of the course. The saving grace was the 1.7-mile uphill, where an extremely strong tailwind pushed riders all the way to the top before a tough finish back into the wind.

Trying to stay as aero as possible on the way out, Matt’s week in Mallorca certainly showed as pushed through the headwind. A tailwind back usual would mean riders easing off, but Matt flew along the homeward stretch before scorching up the hill to finish in a time of 20:20 (29.6mph). This gave Matt a comfortable margin on the win, 28s ahead of Jon Simpkins (Drag2Zero.com) while David Kiernan (Corley Cycles) would finish in 21.47 for 3rd.

This coming weekend has Matt as 2nd seed in the 5th round of the CTT National Series.
